Let’s take a look at some of the most common questions we are asked by clients looking at saunas…
A conventional sauna heats the air, which then heats the outside of your skin (no penetration). A conventional sauna typically heats the air to between 80-100°C. This extreme heat is hard on the respiratory system and the eyes of some people.
Far-infrared heat is typically 38-50°C and the heat waves penetrate up to 2 inches into your body. This heats you up from the inside, quickly raising your core temperature. When your core temperature is raised, you will release toxins and heavy metals from your fat and water cells, into your lymphatic fluid and out through your sweat. Approximately 20% of this sweat is toxins compared to only 2-3% in a regular sauna!
So the benefits of FIR saunas far outweigh those from standard saunas, even though the temperatures are lower, and the experience is much more enjoyable.
Absolutely. As long as you choose one that has been manufactured to a high standard, using the best quality elements.
Infrared is a part of nature and essential for life. The gentle heat is half that of a conventional sauna, so the heat is soothing, comfortable and even safe for people with heart problems. In fact, it is so safe that hospitals use similar heaters to warm newborn babies.
The cost of purchasing an FIR sauna is considerably less than a standard sauna, as is the running cost, which is up to 90% less!
Our saunas use low-EMF carbon-ceramic heaters, which do not need to produce high heat, making them ultra-efficient. That means they consume very little power, typically costing just £0.48* per hour to run our 2 person sauna, and just £0.55* per hour for our 3 person sauna.
* Cost may vary slightly dependent on local energy prices.
Sadly, an FIR sauna just won’t cope with the Great British weather – so avoid any company that says otherwise. You’ll need to house your sauna in a weather-tight building.
Here at Gentle Heatwave we want to give you a completely stress-free experience, and spending half a day (or more!) building a sauna will not help you to relax.
We have a team of fully-trained experts who will not only deliver your sauna to you, but will also come in and assemble it for you. They’ll even test it’s all working properly before they go.
So, once they have left, you can jump straight in and start enjoying your FIR sauna and the benefits that come with it!
Most of the warmth we feel in our bodies and from the sun is between 6 and 20 microns. The often referred to ‘Vital Range’ of far-infrared is in the 7-14-micron range – with optimal levels of 8.4-9.4 microns.
Having a sauna designed to generate far-infrared wavelengths in the ‘Vital Range’ is important because of the potential to sweat more efficiently, which as we have seen earlier, is what ultimately stimulates the benefits of heat therapy.
Our heaters run at an optimal surface temperature – with the majority of the infrared heat being in the vital wave range of 5-15 microns, with a good proportion of wavelengths at 9.4, the optimal absorption range of far-infrared by the human body.
Far-infrared saunas are incredibly safe. However, we would suggest that you just check with your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following apply:
